Top female fashion CEO makes a career of ethics

For corporations, ethics and transparency are not a choice but a must, according to Kim Sung-joo, chairwoman and chief executive of Sungjoo Group, a fashion retailer for the luxury brand MCM.

“It is often the case that in a capitalistic society, many corporations tend to focus their management strategies only on making a profit,” Kim said in an interview last Friday with the JoongAng Daily at the MCM flagship store in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul.

“But setting goals based on profit without consideration for transparency can be very risky as it creates a higher possibility that the company will see a downfall in times of crisis.”
